Quiz Section Exercise: Reactions of Alkenes/Alkynes

Here are the answers to the exercise we did in quiz section today.

Just a reminder:  I highly recommend making a "dictionary" of all the reactions you learn.  Every time you learn a new reaction, add it to your dictionary.  Soon, you'll have a short (and very useful) list of everything the professor can possibly expect you to write as a product for reactions.  If you missed quiz section and want help getting started, just let me know.

Exam 1

If you want a regrade on your exam, you have to submit your exam along with an explanation of what you think you deserve more points for by Tuesday, January 31st.  If you need a regrade, you can bring it to me in office hours on Monday or put it in my mailbox on the first floor of Bagley.  Check the second page of the syllabus for the official procedure for turning in a regrade.

I've removed the online answer key because Professor Sasaki does not want it posted online.  The answer key is instead posted on the bulletin board on the first floor of Bagley - please check your answers there.

Correction for Practice Exam 1

The correct answer for 3a (ii) is

1-bromo-2,3-dimethylCYCLOpentane

it is NOT 1-bromo-2,3-dimethylpentane.  The mistake in the posted answer is that the "cyclo" part is missing.  Thanks, Elizabeth, for catching that!

Practice Exam 1

This is the practice exam that we worked through in quiz section last Friday.  Please note that the exam on Tuesday will still happen, even though we have had a few snow days.  The exam will cover chapters 10 and 11 plus the parts of chapter 12 that will be covered in class on Monday.  Good luck!

ROOM CHANGE for AE Quiz Section

Since we didn't have a good whiteboard in the Art building, our room for quiz section has changed to Mary Gates Hall (MGH) room 082A.  Please DO NOT go to the Art building for quiz section ever again.  This is a permanent change.  This is only for section AE (the section that meets Friday 10:30-11:20).

Here are the worked out answers to the first homework.  Please note that I accidentally wrote the answer to problem 10.1 instead of problem 10.3 for the first question.  All of the answers to the questions are given at the end of the chapter.

This is the website for our section of Chemistry 220.  I will use this website to post answers to any activities that we do in quiz section.  Please make sure to also check the official course website for up to date information about the course, labs, and your homework.

I will also post a weekly poll on this website so that you can vote for which homework questions we should review in quiz section.  You can also vote for "this stuff is easy" if you have no questions on the homework.  If most people find the homework easy, then I will make additional questions for us to go through during quiz section.
