Correction for Practice Exam 1

The correct answer for 3a (ii) is

1-bromo-2,3-dimethylCYCLOpentane

it is NOT 1-bromo-2,3-dimethylpentane.  The mistake in the posted answer is that the "cyclo" part is missing.  Thanks, Elizabeth, for catching that!

  1. shouldn't it be 3-bromo-1,2-dimethylcylcopentane?

  2. When there is more than one substituent, you should start numbering at the substituent that comes first alphabetically. Therefore Bromo comes before Methyl, because B comes before M.
